Meet Torhild

Genealogy has been part of my life for more than 30 years, but my connection to Scandinavia began long before I became a genealogist.

I was born and raised in Bodø, Norway, and grew up surrounded by the language, history, and culture that now form the foundation of my work. Today, I help people around the world trace their Scandinavian families and better understand the people and places that shaped their ancestors' lives.

From language and history to genealogy

My interest in family history began long before it became my profession. Over the years, what started as research into my own family grew into thousands of hours spent working with Scandinavian records, learning the sources, and developing the skills needed to solve increasingly complex research problems.

Language has always been an important part of that journey. Before becoming a professional genealogist, I trained as a technical translator in Norway. As a native Norwegian, I am comfortable working with Danish and Swedish as well as Norwegian. I also have experience with the older language and handwriting found in historical records. Those skills allow me not only to read the words on a page, but to understand them within their historical and genealogical context.

Eventually, my love of genealogy and my language background came together professionally. I earned an associate degree in Family History and, in 2021, became an Accredited Genealogist® professional in the Norway region through the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists (ICAPGen™).

Experience you can rely on

Professional genealogy requires more than knowing where to find a record. It requires careful analysis, thorough documentation, and an understanding of the historical and cultural context in which those records were created.
